Several years ago, a friend made a Father's Day storybook for her husband Merv, and he loved it so much that he decided to make himself one the following year too. She used the HM EXCL: Father's Day, a 7 x 5 storybook template and filled it with pictures of him and our two children as well as some heartfelt sentiments. The last page of the book was the real "gift." She placed two ultrasound pictures on it and wrote, "Daddy, I've heard so many wonderful things about you from my siblings, and I'm so honored that you will be my Daddy, too! I'm looking forward to meeting you on or about January 10, 2009!" She actually gave Merv the book as soon as she received it, which was a week before Father's Day. He was so surprised and overcome with emotion as he read that last page. They decided to wait to tell the rest of the family on Father's Day at the luncheon they already had planned. She gave her parents one copy of the book and Merv's parents another so that they could look through it at the same time. Her mother-in-law had the best reaction of all! She said this experience will definitely be included in her baby's storybook. These were truly priceless moments for her family and a great celebration of the new baby they were about to welcome into their family. |

Heritage Makers recently posted on their Facebook page asking their fans to fill in the following blank: “If only I had known ________________ before I started scrapbooking.” To be honest, the answers didn’t surprise me! There is a common thread among those who make the move from traditional to digital scrapbooking and it boils down to simplifying our lives. Time, space and cost are all factors that motivate us to make changes to the way we do things, and going digital is just one more way to save you on all of them. That’s a key reason Heritage Makers is a preferred option for creating photo keepsakes. If you’re new to digital scrapbooking, these responses might give you some ‘insider’ knowledge. If you are a seasoned veteran, then you can probably relate to most of these! I pulled some of my favorites to share with you.
That digital pictures could be made into scrapbooks without the mess of scrapbooking and made so easy to use.” – Jackie L. To NOT chop up my photos with “Fancy” scissors.” – Val P.
Some people enjoy the tactile, physical nature of traditional scrapbooking, but many are discovering that there is a place for digital scrapbooking in their memory keeping hobby. Whether you’re a digital die-hard or enjoy both, your projects are pieces of you and your experiences that can be shared with those you love. I’d have to say, my favorite responses are the ones like Tammy’s. Hearing about the positive impact your digital scrapbooking projects have on you and your families is why I love doing what I do! Now it’s your turn – what do you wish you’d known before you picked up those ‘fancy scissors’? Think of the memories you have growing up – the ones that probably stand out the most are the little things, right? Baking cookies with mom, family game nights, helping dad fix the car…but how many of us have photos capturing these ‘magic moments’? Most of us think about creating personalized photo gifts for big events and milestones such as weddings, anniversaries, graduations and birthdays. Challenge yourself this year to make the little moments just as important as the big ones. Keep your camera nearby so it’s ready to grab when your kids are sharing a special bonding moment or a pillow fight breaks out. You’ll be happy you did when you look back as a family and reminisce about the ‘small moments’ that were the most rewarding part of your year. Here are a few of our favorite submissions for the Magic Moments challenge this month. Use them as inspiration to get you started with your own personalized photo gifts!
Brenda Kruse from Nevada created a character autograph flipbook to announce an upcoming trip to Disneyland as Christmas gifts. The kids were so excited when they opened this gift they spontaneously tackled her! Watch this ‘magic moment’ as it happened on YouTube:
Use these ideas as inspiration for capturing your own magic moments this month. Who knows – you may end up creating more memories than you planned! These photo gifts will become priceless treasures, as each book is filled with memories that are unique to your family. And remember – no moment is too big or too small. What ‘magic moments’ did your family experience together last year? Share with us below.
Oprah Winfrey Featured Heritage Makers Personalized Storybooks as One of Her All-Time Favorite Holiday Gifts
Provo, Utah, December 12, 2012 – Heritage Makers was featured in Oprah’s Favorite Things Under $50, a list compiled by Huff Post OWN and published December 10, 2012. This list highlighted some of Oprah’s most popular and affordable holiday gift ideas. The article wrote that Heritage Makers storybooks allow people to “preserve [their] memories and record [their] legacy in one beautiful book.” The storybooks made it onto Oprah’s annual list of “favorite things” in 2008, after a fan caught Oprah’s attention with a storybook dedicated to the memory of Oprah’s dog, Gracie. Since then, Heritage Makers has been featured on Good Morning America, Entertainment Tonight, and Better Homes and Gardens. Gayle King, co-host of CBS This Morning and editor-at-large for O Magazine, introduced the storybooks on Good Morning America. “You can personalize a book, send in your pictures and upload the captions, and they will make the book for you,” King said. “You can make anything a story, and everybody’s got a story.” Oprah personally chooses and recommends each product featured on her list of “favorite things.” She has featured this list as a holiday segment on The Oprah Winfrey Show from 2002-2010, and on the Oprah Winfrey Network since 2011. Huff Post OWN, a collaboration between The Huffington Post and the Oprah Winfrey Network, compiled this list of Oprah’s Favorite Things Under $50. “We’re delighted to be included on the list of Oprah’s Favorite Things Under $50,” said Brytt Cloward, VP of Sales and Marketing at Heritage Makers. “Given the meaningful impact of our custom storybooks, it’s easy to see why Oprah chose Heritage Makers as one of her gift-giving options.” Jennifer Zucker celebrates the courageous decision of her seven-year-old daughter to cut off her hair to benefit children fighting cancer and creates a beautiful storybook.
